Look no further: the second edition of Streamlined ID is the perfect solution for teaching instructional design to beginner or advanced students. This revision effectively explains the ADDIE model while emphasizing the crucial iterative/formative process needed throughout the design/development process in all areas of training and education. Real-world applications of classic design principles bring the ID process to life and make this book an invaluable reference for educators and practitioners alike.

Streamlined ID provides a solid foundation in learning theory, learning science, and instructional design approaches with engaging, meaningful, and practical examples. In fact, Streamlined ID is not only a textbook, but a reference book for all new and seasoned scholars and practitioners who are interested in incorporating new technologies and approaches to help people learn.
-Lin Lin, Professor of Learning Technologies and Director of the Texas Center for Educational Technology, University of North Texas, USA
Streamlined ID is an instructional aid that redefines the basics and provides relevant examples throughout to ease the ID learning process. This resource has been invaluable in the redevelopment of our manufacturing training program, from personnel development to the design of instructional material for the classroom and online. Implementing the ADDIE process has also enabled our instruction to be sustainable, optimized, and appropriately redundant while focusing on continuous improvement, a critical element in the quality assurance aspect of our operation. This book is the gold source for developing training courses or an entire program.

In 1979, Harry O'Neill introduced me to my first instructional design model: Tell them what you're going to tell them, tell them, tell them what you told them. Since then, the field of instructional design has become richly elaborated (e.g., Reigeluth's Elaboration Model was published in 1979) and perhaps a bit intimidating in its scope, breadth, and depth. Fast forward forty years, and Larson and Lockee's Streamlined ID has become the standard text for the field, blending the art and the science of ID with an emphasis on the practical, providing a highly readable account of the state-of-the art. This new second edition builds upon the foundations of the first, extending coverage of all phases of the ADDIE model (especially evaluation, technology, technology selection, design thinking, and UDL) while adding sections on production issues, project management, and the alignment of learning theories with pedagogies. The book is filled throughout with useful tables and job aids that help students organize and apply the content to their own projects. My own students come from a wide range of work environments-business, government, military, medical, K-12 and higher education-and all have found this this book to be well-suited to their needs. Highly recommended.
