Two so-called Great Commandments are at the heart of the teaching of Jesus. They are about the all-importance of love: for God and for others. Do this Jesus says and you will live. Paul Nelson was impressed by these teachings as a child. They have been foundational in his life. But he grew up in a world that had turned its back on business with God. In Fool's Journey he revisits Jesus' words. Might they still have something to say? Or are they nothing but the impossible decrees of a non-existent deity?

Über Paul Nelson

Paul Nelson was born in London in 1952. He attended Catholic schools, but like many others abandoned religion as a young adult. Trained as a graphic designer, he went to work in what was then Fleet Street, in the production department of a national newspaper. The book describes experiences and encounters that encouraged him to question materialist orthodoxy. He was ordained in the Church of England in 1984, and served in traditional parishes for over thirty years. Though rooted in Christian devotion, Paul Nelson has (as the book makes clear) a fascination with the sacred in all its guises, and with the many forms of inner-life exploration currently practiced in supposedly secular England. He lives in Suffolk and is a Canon Emeritus of St Edmundsbury Cathedral.
