PETE ALCOCK is author of the best-selling Social Policy in Britain: Themes and Issues as well as Understanding Poverty (second edition). He is co-editor of The Blackwell Companion to Social Policy and past Chair of the Social Policy Association. He is Chair of the editorial board of the Journal of Social Policy. - GARY CRAIG is co-editor of Community Empowerment: An International Reader, and co-author of Community Work and the State.
