This book describes the unjustified pain suffered by animals in scientific, military and commercial research and the inhuman process through which meat is provided to consumers who have been conditioned to ignore the realities of meat production. Peter Singer showed that meat production is not only ethically indefensible but shamefully wasteful, depriving the world's poor of the protein they need.
