Now out in affordable paperback version this book contains lots for the fantasy painter beginning with a useful section on colours showing some combinations for different effects. Rebecca explains some basic watercolour techniques and explains how to use these to enhance the effect of the painting. A really helpful section on drawing horses from basic shapes follows and she goes on to show how to use this structure to create unicorns. She explains some of the history behind unicorn fantasy and how they vary in tails, hooves and horns. She also covers how to complete famtsy backgrounds to finish the painting. The book ends with two very clearly explained demonstrations.

There are some fabulous paintings to inspire in this book, for anyone interested in fantasy art, and the actual unicorn and background information would transfer to other mediums. It would make a great partner to Elaine Hamer's Painting Angels in Watercolour.

Über Rebecca Balchin

Rebecca Balchin graduated from the Kent Institute of Art and Design with a Degree in Fine Art in 2001. Upon leaving, she went on to train as a Teacher of Art and Design and currently enjoys teaching Art at St. Johns Secondary School in Kent. Rebecca also works freelance, producing highly sensitive and accurate Equine Portraits to commission.
