Rebecca Thorne's The Grief House is a truly original story, with a compelling, in-depth exploration of grief, trauma and healing. I was totally gripped by the gradual, skilful revelation of Blue's story, and the ways in which her mother's obsessions marked her life. The setting is masterfully depicted, with the tension rising in tandem with the flood waters threatening the house. An absolute page-turner, this is a must for thriller fans -- Cailean Steed, author of HOME
The Grief House is an atmospheric, beautifully written thriller about love, death and the possibility of what comes afterwards, with characters that remained with me long after I finished turning the pages -- Nikki Smith
There is a central mystery and a good one but the real strength of the novel is in the lyricism of the writing, the careful structure, and the depth of the characterisation. The inherent claustrophobia of the present day setting is beautifully done, along with some very well-judged 'stomach-drop-moments' of gradually realised creeping horror in flashback. The way that the apparently disparate backstories cohere is clever and unexpected. And the story develops and humanises not only the main character, but so many others too, so that everyone here good or bad ... feels real in their own way. It's fantastic chilling, compelling and complete and you should read it -- Steve Mosby
