In every human society and culture there is a fund of stories - parables, fables, legends - which encapsulate moral and spiritual values and pass those values on from one generation to the next. One of the characters found in every spiritual tradition is the wandering sage. Sometimes he has a name, such a Mulla Nasrudin or Guru Nudel. More often he is nameless. He belongs to no religious hierarchy and has no religious affiliation.
