This book covers most of the topics dealt with in courses described as either sociolinguistics or the sociology of language. Planned as a basic introduction, it requires little previous knowledge of such foundation disciplines as linguistics, sociology, anthropology and psychology, since all the concepts needed for understanding are introduced in the text.
