My favourite part about the story was when Amelie made it into the quarter finals in the national baking competition, but I felt sad she couldn't go to it because of her Cystic Fibrosis, and it was causing big problems. I absolutely love to bake and so could totally relate to Amelie's love of cooking. Before reading this however I could not have appreciated how hard it must be for kids with disabilities. This book was great as it made me understand a bit more how hard life can be and how brave some children need to be. Despite the serious side to this book it was a great read and I wanted to finish it quick to find out how Amelie did in the baking competition. As an added bonus the book contains yummy recipes which I can't wait to try out myself. 'The Baking Life of Amelie Day' was a good book. Amelie has Cystic Fibrosis and needs to take tons of tablets and other things. She absolutely loves to bake and has been accepted to The Best Teen Baker Of The Year Award, but her mum won't let her go as her CF is getting worse. Will Amelie let that stop her? A feature that I really liked in the book was that every now and then there was a recipe and I will defiantly try some of them. My favourite character was Harry, Amelie's boy friend, because he is very understanding of her CF. He is kind and makes sure she takes all her medication. This book was interesting finding out what some people have to live with if they have Cystic Fibrosis or live with someone that has it. Life must be very hard for them. I really enjoyed reading about Amelie Day. It had happy and sad bits and I liked this. It teaches you not to go off without a parent and how important your family is. A really entertaining and uplifting read. This book deals beautifully within its plot of how a teenager lives with cystic fibrosis. 'The Baking Life of Amelie Day,' tells the story of Amelie, a young teenager, who adores baking and has won a place in the quarter finals of 'Best teen baker of the year.' The story explores her relationships with family and friends as we discover more about her. As the story is written from her point of view, this allows the reader to identify with her from start to finish. Amelie has to live with cystic fibrosis, and Vanessa Curtis gives just enough information to allow the reader to empathise with Amelie and to grow to love her determined character. Will she get to the baking competition which means so much to her? I will be looking out for another story about Amelie in the future as I have read that there may be another story about this character planned. I would recommend this book for anyone aged between 10 and 14 who enjoy a book with a great main character and an interesting plot. It had some good recipes that made me hungry and made me want to bake them. The good thing about this book is that it has lots of good recipes. It was a good book to read as it kept me interested. My favourite part is, When she makes the really orangey muffins and makes everyone hungry! But the part that makes me really laugh is when she said "I want someone to pay me, flour, milk, eggs and sugar" My favourite chapter is Amelie, mum and Gemma. When Amelie is invited to London to take part in the " best teen baker " competition her mum says no, because Amelie has cystic fibrosis. Some days she is fine and some days she struggles to breathe. This worries her mum. It's difficult for Amelie because she needs daily physio and has a lot of pills and medicines to take. She sneaks to London on the train without her mum knowing!!! My favourite character is Amelie because she is very determined and nothing will stop her getting where she wants. I like the story because it is easy to read and very descriptive while dealing with a range of emotions. It has also given me an idea of what it is like to live with cystic fibrosis. I really liked Amelie's voice, she engages with the reader, is funny, determined and sincere. You know about Amelie's cystic fibrosis from the book blurb but Amelie doesn't go into details until a few chapters in. It's part of the story but not the story, I thought Vanessa Curtis balanced this really well. Charming, sweet and honest I recommend The Baking Life of Amelie Day, ideally with cupcakes and tea. This book is about a girl with cystic fibrosis who loves baking. There is a girl called Amelia Day and she has cystic fibrosis. When she was six her mum told her a poem which told the reader about what girls and boys are made of that is one of the things that inspired her to like baking. She has a best friend called Gemma Smith, they are absolute opposites. Amelia is writing a book entitled 'The Amelia Day Book of Baking'. She has entered a talent competition for teen bakers. Her specialty is cakes but she can't bake biscuits as they always turn out wrong. but when it gets to a crucial round of the competition it turns out she has to make biscuits, oh no! The good things about this book are: it was a clear story, it had good descriptions and it was gripping. The bad thing about this book was that it interrupted the story to give us recipes which is a nice idea but it sometimes confused me and they were also harder to find than if the recipes had been referenced and placed at the back. I think you got the details of Cystic Fibrosis just right....the close relationship with parents, the frustrations, the tiny little details. I almost found it hard to read at times because it brought so much back to me. I really think it's a little gem and I want to see what happens next! Fantastic story, if you love baking you will love this story of determination and flour power. This is my first Vanessa Curtis book and it has left a lasting impression on me. I will definitely be searching for more of her books. This book tells the tale of a girl who, despite suffering from cystic fibrosis, is very determined to succeed in her favourite hobby, baking. I love the fact that this book has recipes in it as I also love to bake. I will be trying the sticky German gingerbread with vanilla custard very soon. I would highly recommend it for people who like dramatic stories, not just cooking fans. 10/10! Being fond of cooking, I found this book very interesting. It is unique in the way it has recipes that are used in the book, so you can make the food yourself. It was very entertaining and really made me want to read on near the end. It was very exciting towards the end of the book because of the challenges Amelie faces. Even though Amelie has a disease called Cystic Fibrosis her desire is to win the best teen baker. She will do anything to get into the semi finale. I love the recipes in this book especially the golden syrup cookies. I tried all of them and they were all delicious. This book is just so amazing it blew my mind. A very eye catching book I couldn't put it down. There was so much amazing description in this book I love it so much. I found myself constantly drooling. This book should come with at least one cupcake, to make reading it easier. This is the first book I've read by Vanessa Curtis but I am positive it won't be the last. A beautiful blend of humour and sadness.
