One morning in August 1942, Canadian troops undertook the largest and most complex amphibious assault of World War II. It was a display of camaraderie and courage that paved the way for future triumphs, but nevertheless the landings at Dieppe were a tragic disaster. Awakening, like the rest of Canada, to the extent of the disaster, they realized that every single young man of fighting age of the town's population had been killed or taken prisoner in one morning. Exploring the political manouevres that set the wheels in motion, the book builds to the bloody events, which are related by several of the commanders, both Allied and German.
