Winter Climbing: Ben Nevis and Glencoe Alan Kimber
Ben Nevis, the peaks of Glen Coe and the surrounding mountains give some of the best snow and ice climbing anywhere in Europe, when the conditions are right. So popular and well known is Ben Nevis, that in recent years, climbers from as far afield as Poland, Australia, France, Italy and the USA have been seen trudging the delights of the 'famous' Allt a'Mhuilinn approach. Hamish MacInnes and Yvon Chouinard have made films of winter climbing on Ben Nevis, as have French guides, who continue to bring clients back each year. Justifiably a good 'tick' on any discerning world traveller's itinerary. Many of the routes are longer than experienced anywhere else in British hills and of alpine-like seriousness. It is not a good idea to be lured onto the famous 'Tower Ridge' of Ben Nevis as your first Scottish winter climb! This new full-colour edition has over 700 routes, including the best of the new routes up to the 2002 season. The guide covers Ben Nevis, Carn Dearg, Aonachs Mor and Beag, and Bidean nam Bian, Buchaille Etive Mor and outlying peaks in Glencoe.
