Helping Children to Build Self-Esteem: A Photocopiable Activities Book Alice Harper

The importance of developing a strong sense of self-esteem cannot be overestimated. Feeling good about who they are enables children to learn more effectively, helps them to cope with life's stresses and inspires them to create a better future for themselves. Yet the materials available for working on self-esteem tend to be too complex for use with children. Helping Children to Build Self-Esteem offers over 100 simple, practical and fun activities specifically aimed at helping children to build and maintain self-esteem. Based on the author's extensive clinical experience, these photocopiable activity sheets encourage children to use their natural imaginative and creative abilities to consider their relationships with themselves, their families and friends and their world and to express their feelings in words and pictures. These exercises are suitable for work with individuals and groups and with all children including those with special needs or with speech and language difficulties. This unique activities book will be an invaluable resource for anyone looking for creative, enjoyable ways of helping children to build their self-esteem.

Helping Children to Build Self-Esteem Bewertungen

Helping Children to Build Self Esteem is an activities programme designed to help children to use their imagination to raise their self esteem, problem solve more effectively and to make friends. Plummer feels that good self- esteem is essential for children to learn, and should be a central goal for schools... It contains clear instructions for people working with children to put together a group programme, and whilst Plummer emphasises helping children with speech and language difficulties, it would be easy to adapt the activities to other children. The activities would work best in a circle time environment'. -- 0-19 Magazine

'The book if practical and positive. It draws on principle from Kelly's personal construct theory, and several activities echo brief solution-focused therapy. The activities involve small steps to facilitate change: they focus on achievement, while acknowledging that failure is a part of the learning process, and they emphasise experimentation. This book is thoughtfully produced and is evidently grounded in practical experience. It will be useful for professionals working to develop children's self -esteem and confident.
