This book is about emotionally deprived children, their pain and their needs; and about the communities which provide a place where those needs can be met, and broken childhoods acknowledged, understood and re-made. At a time of rapid change in the welfare professions, this work makes it clear that the experience of intentive psychotherapeutic work in a residential setting is a resource from which much can be learnt about emotional distress and its origins.
