Cyrille Regis Autobiography Zusammenfassung

Cyrille Regis Autobiography Cyrille Regis

Cyrille Regis's story is a compelling one on so many levels. The story of his migration from the French Caribbean to a racially divided West London in the 1960s, his development as a semi-professional footballer and his subsequent move to a top-flight Football League club, followed by national recognition and glory, while still facing racial hatred is a tale in itself. The book begins at Buckingham Palace in 2008, when Cyrille Regis received his MBE, recognition for his services to football and the community. This fascinating autobiography describes the battles Cyrille faced as a child and teenager before he turned professional and achieved great things as a footballer. As well as detailing the glorious moments in his career, it studies the impact that he and his black teammates had on the sociological outlook of football fans. The book concludes with a review of Cyrille Regis's life after he retired as a footballer and his work in the community.

Über Cyrille Regis

Cyrille Regis, MBE, was born in French Guiana in 1958 and moved to England aged five. He was a part-time footballer for Hayes in the Isthmian League and training to be an electrician when, in 1977, West Bromwich Albion paid a GBP5,000 transfer fee for his services. Cyrille's career took off and he won international honours, playing at time when crowd violence and racial hatred were at their worst, but he helped to change attitudes, something that has continued since retiring as a player. Chris Green is the author of several football books, including The Sack Race: The Story of Football Gaffers and Every Boy's Dream: England's Football Future on the Line. He is a BBC Radio 1, 2, 4, 5 Live and World Service broadcaster, who has produced hundreds of features and dozens of programmes. In addition, he has written for several newspapers and magazines including The Sunday Times, The Observer, FourFourTwo and World Soccer.
