Helping the Suffering Zusammenfassung

Helping the Suffering: Autobiographical Reflections on Supporting Those in Pain James Muldoon

Seeing someone you love hurting, and feeling like you can do nothing to help, is hard. We are so nervous about making their suffering worse that we are paralysed into doing nothing. James and Jennie Muldoon are familiar with suffering. They tell their story here, explain how they were supported and comforted by their brothers and sisters in Christ, and give ideas for where to start when we are helping those in pain.

Helping the Suffering Bewertungen

This book challenges us to be 'strong and courageous' when supporting the suffering. I saw immediate fruit from the Muldoon's teaching to be more intentional, to acknowledge and so validate the struggles of others, and to unapologetically give them Christ! A must read!

-- Natalie Brand (Bible teacher and author of 'Priscilla, Where Are You? A Call to Joyful Theology')

I am glad I have read this book and have no qualms in highly recommending it. The book ends with a ringing affirmation that Jesus remembers and understands. Jesus remembers the cross and what the worst of life's troubles feels like. 'That is compassion written in the largest letters upon the canvas of the universe.'

-- Irene Howat (Award-winning author)

... a hard story, but not a hopeless story. And out of the ashes of their sorrow emerges helpful insight and practical takeaways for those who walk alongside others in their sufferings. In 'Helping the Suffering', God's faithfulness shines forth on every page.

-- Christina Fox (Counselor, retreat speaker and author)

James and Jennie's honest, and at times raw, account of their experiences will be a great help, both to those who are facing suffering, and to friends and family who seek to support them. It is full of Godly wisdom and Christ-centred hope.

-- Vaughan Roberts (Rector of St Ebbe's, Oxford and Director of Proclamation Trust)

In an easy style, and with honesty and tears, James and Jennie tell us their story of suffering. We learn that the Lord leads us through situations which are too much for us to bear, but are not too much for Him to carry us through. With an open Bible, and with a wisdom born of their own experience, they then move on to give us a host of practical suggestions about helping the suffering. It is all challenging and wonderful.

-- Stuart Olyott (Pastoral Director, Evangelical Movement of Wales)

... pastorally sensitive and biblically faithful. When we suffer we need truth, compassion and hope. This book will help you to find these things in Jesus.

-- Paul Mallard (Author of 'Invest Your Suffering' & Pastor, Widcombe Baptist Church, Bath, UK)

... an encouraging story of authentic faith in times of trial, and a God whose ways may sometimes seem strange, but whose love really does endure forever. I'm confident this book will help God's people 'weep with those who weep' and shine forth the comfort and mercy of Christ Jesus.

-- Matt Searles (Director of Training, South Central Gospel Partnership Author of Tumbling Sky: Psalms for Weary Souls)

... out of their experience of what they describe as 'the unpredictable course of grief', comes this honest and practical handbook. For those of us who guiltily hang back around suffering friends, this book is a nudge in the ribs. 'Go on. You can help and here is how.'

-- Ann Benton (Author and family conference speaker, Guildford, England)

What a helpful and inspiring book! In just two hours of reading, Jennie and James let you in on the painful road they have had to travel. They encourage you to see the faithfulness of God and to be a better friend to those who are suffering.

-- Will Stileman (Vicar, St Mary's, Maidenhead, UK)
