The National Galleries of Scotland comprises threegalleries: the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, Scottish National Gallery ofModern Art and the Scottish National Gallery. Sir John Leighton is Director-General of the NationalGalleries of Scotland. He was formerly Director of the Van Gogh Museum inAmsterdam and Curator of nineteenth-century paintings at the National Galleryin London. He is the author of numerous publications and exhibition catalogueson nineteenth-century art.
