Jon L. Dunn, co-author, is an expert on the identification and distribution of North American birds. He is a consultant for the ABA magazine, Birding, and a member of the California Bird Records Committee and the American Ornithologists' Union Committee on Taxonomy and Nomenclature. He has also been chair of the ABA Checklist Committee. Dunn is a co-author of National Geographic Birding Essentials (Fall 2007) and has a long history with NG's Field Guide to the Birds of North America, having served as chief consultant for four previous editions and as co-editor for the fifth.
Jonathan Alderfer, co-author, is a widely published author and field guide illustrator. One of the nation's foremost bird artists, he is well known in the birding community for his expertise as a field ornithologist and for his knowledge of N. Amer. birds. A former editor of Birding, the American Birding Association's magazine, he also served on the Maryland/D.C. Bird Records Committee. Alderfer is co-author, with Jon Dunn, of National Geographic Birding Essentials (Fall, 2007) and co-editor of both the NG Field Guide to the Birds of North Amer., 5th edition (Fall, 2006),and NG Complete Birds of North America (Fall, 2005). He is also chief consultant for the NGS Birding Program.
