The theme of this book is the reverse of traditional history, a turning upside down of what has been a conventional viewpoint. The existence of a continuing under current of social opposition to the established society and the way this found religious forms of expression are the underlying themes linking the separate chapters. The studies are all local to Hertfordshire but provide a rich source of new material and insights for the study of local history in all parts of the country.
