The Brutal Telling Louise Penny

The New York Times Bestseller

'Penny . . . is at the top of her game' (Toronto Star)

When Chief Inspector Gamache arrives in picturesque Three Pines, he steps into a village in chaos. A man has been found bludgeoned to death, and there is no sign of a weapon, a motive or even the dead man's name.

As Gamache and his colleagues start to dig under the skin of this peaceful haven for clues, they uncover a trail of stolen treasure, mysterious codes and a shameful history that begins to shed light on the victim's identity - and points to a terrifying killer...

Ingenious and unexpected * Guardian *
The best Gamache so far * Globe and Mail *
It's Louise Penny's writing which adds a glow to this book. It's not just the skill of the plot, but the way that words are never wasted and that so few of them can produce a vivid picture. * The Bookbag *
Murder, an attractive detective and terrific atmosphere . . . Impressive * The Times *
An intricate, almost mythic plot, superb characters, and rich, dark humor. * People *
Louise Penny's writing is intricate, beautiful and compelling. She is an original voice, a distillation of both PD James and Barbara Vine at their peaks and a worthy successor to both. * Peter James *
