The Near East Since the First World War Zusammenfassung

The Near East Since the First World War: A History to 1995 M.E. Yapp

This text takes up the story of M.E.Yapp's previous volume in the series, "The Making of the Modern Near East, 1792-1923", and surveys the history of the region from the collapse of the Ottoman Empire to the present day. It covers the modern countries of Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey, North and South Yemen and the Gulf States. The text argues that the impetus for change in the Near East came primarily from within the region and can only be understood by study of internal forces. In addition examines the extraordinary stability of the state system that emerged after World War 1 and the post-1950 transformation of the region after the end of European domination.
