Eighteen-year-old Jed Stone was a troubled young man. His family's home and land would be repossessed by the Denver Bank unless they made their next mortgage repayment. But there was no way the money could be found, unless by unlawful means. His neighbours, the four McIver brothers, were in the same position and, against his will, Jed found himself planning a robbery with them. The McIvers got away with the strongbox but Jed was wounded and sentenced under an assumed name to five years in the Kansas Penitentiary.
