Cobra in the Bath Zusammenfassung

Cobra in the Bath: Adventures in Less Travelled Lands Miles Morland

Miles Morland is an adventurer. He was born in India to a naval father and a dangerously glamorous mother. When his parents divorced, Miles followed his mother to Tehran, which they had to leave in a hurry, and on to Baghdad, which they also had to leave in a hurry after the 1958 revolution. His early years were filled with desert journeys, riots, perilous near-misses, and adventures worthy of Kipling, after which he was sent to England for a 'proper' education. Later, following years of shouting down a Wall Street telephone, Miles threw in his job, bought a giant motorbike and set off to discover things in places others did not want to go. Deported at gunpoint from Romania, saved from assassination in Ethiopia by a lucky plane crash, riding an Enfield Bullet through Ooty and following Che over the Andes - Miles has a knack of finding trouble. Brilliantly observed and told with unique humour, Cobra in the Bath will have you crying with laughter and scared out of your wits.

Cobra in the Bath Bewertungen

This is the very opposite of a misery memoir. A merriment memoir, maybe? Whatever we call it there should be more of them ... Adult life, as so often in memoirs, slightly pales under the dash and vigour of childhood and youth, but Miles is such a skilful anecdotalist you even forgive him when he writes about his career in finance ... A delightful book, sunny, non-judgemental and as cheering as a long lunch in good company on a warm summer's day * Daily Mail *
Easy Rider in a pinstripe suit, Miles Morland delivers a breathtaking roller-coaster of an adrenaline-fuelled life story - I was with him every inch of the way! * Elisabeth Luard *
An outrageously beguiling voyage through life - full of empire, ecstasy, humour and sadness. His wanderlust embraces some worlds I've visited as a reporter, but have never captured as he has - Iraq especially. All this is coupled with a trail-blazing capacity for making, spending and giving away money * Jon Snow *
He has a fund of good stories, and tells them well * Daily Telegraph *
A witty memoir ... Living his far from conventional life on his own terms, Morland has something for everyone. His narrative picks up a level of thrill through his visits to Communist Hungary in the late 1989 to his new found love of motor-cycling in his late 40s. More poignant are the accounts of the last rites of one of his daughters who tragically committed suicide. Moreland has written another bestseller * Lifestyle *
Miles Morland's Cobra in the Bath mixes travelogue and memoir, displaying his gift for comic adventures, often high-risk, and set in some of the world's most difficult terrain * Scotland on Sunday Travel Books of the Year *

Über Miles Morland

Miles Morland was born in India and grew up all over the place. He overcame a conventional background to lead a life of often absurd adventure. His first book, The Man Who Broke Out of the Bank, about chucking in his job and walking across France with his recently remarried wife, was a Sunday Times bestseller. He lives on a boat in London.
