Traditional "visiting hours", or, rather, the hour, gave way to free visiting only two decades ago. Many problems were solved but new tensions arose in the implementation of the developing ideas of partnership in care. This is an account of the everyday experiences of parents in hospital from their perspective and a detailed and sustained description and critique of family-centred care.
