The mystical experience - the intimate knowledge of and loving union with God - has found richly diverse expression during the 2000 years of Christian history. Through an integration of text and image, facts and facets of the human mystical quest are explored and discussed. The book focuses on 50 to 60 individuals, both men and women, following a mainly historical outline. It also considers the major figures among the early Christians and their influence on early Islamic mysticism.
