The first book in the series Civil Engineering Heritage, this book covers the region of Northern England from South Yorkshire up to the border between England and Scotland, north of Hadrian's Wall. Each chapter contains a map giving the location of the works described, a brief history of engineering and development within that particular area and information on the individual works. The areas covered are: Border Country, South and West of Berwick-upon-Tweed, Tyne and Wear, County Durham and Cleveland, York and North Yorkshire, Cumbria, South and West Yorkshire, Lancashire and the Isle of Man, Merseyside and Greater Manchester.
