Inscribed 'from the Author to Thomas Paget' on title page 'with thanks to him for his chapter on the analysis of the alphabet'. Does not include Gardiner's signature. Includes in-text sheet music but no frontispiece. Rough-cut pages. Light thumb marking, foxing and noticeable tanning to pages. More prominent to text block edges, pastedowns and free endpapers. Slight transfer of music to text pages opposite. Light cracking, creasing and staining to gutters and hinges but binding remains firm. p132 has a large open tear affecting the text but is complete. Occasional pencil annotations and marginalia. Pencil inscription to front free endpaper. Slight liquid stains to margins of several pages. Boards have minor corner bumping, edgewear, tanning and scuffing overall. Spine has heavier tanning; soft crushing to ends. Slight thumb marking. Front hinge slightly split
