About Alfred Brendel

Alfred Brendel was born in Wiesenberg in 1931, but has lived in London for many years. One of the world's greatest pianists, he is renowned for his interpretation of Schubert, Beethoven and the other great composers he plays, as well as for his writing on music. His book Music Sounded Out (included in this volume) won the Royal Philharmonic Society Charles Heidsieck Music Award 'For the special insights and musical wisdom which a performer of genius can bring to bear on the music which he has studied and played for so long...'
