Many tried to use her for their own ends, however she rose out of the shadows and on the death of her sister, she became Gloriana - England's most iconic queen.

About Alison Plowden

ALISON PLOWDEN was loved as an author who made history engaging and readable. Many would credit her with being the inspiration for writers, such as Philippa Gregory. She wrote 25 books, including the four-volume Elizabethan Quartet. She wrote numerous screenplays for the BBC. She sadly passed away in 2007, leaving behind her an incredible body of work.
