A travel book about the Tibetans, in exile and at home. Tibet is becoming an increasingly fashionable tourist destination, but at the same time there are stirrings of revolt against Chinese rule. The author has visited the major Tibetan centres in India and has talked to Tibetan politicians, writers, religious leaders (including the Dalai Lama), traders, teachers, monks and soldiers and presents a portrait of a fascinating culture surviving in exile. The author has also entered Tibet itself to describe the world they left behind.
