About Angela Leeper

Angela Leeper is an independent educational consultant and freelance writer and editor. She has worked as a teacher, librarian, and as an educational consultant in Evaluation Services at the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. In Evaluation Services, she facilitated the review of print materials to be used in North Carolina's public schools; edited and contributed to InfoTech, NCDPI's journal of recommended reviews; and worked with educators across the state via one-on-one interactions, workshops, conferences, and telecasts. She is a regular reviewer of children's and young adult books for Kirkus Reviews and Multicultural Review, and a contributor to Multicultural Review, The Book Report, American Careers, Succeed, The Bark, Dream/Girl, and North Carolina Libraries. She is the author of Juneteenth: Celebrating African-American Freedom (2004). She serves on the Association for Library Service to Children's Publications Committee and the Young Adult Library Services Association's Alex Award Committee.
