This book is really well set out with 1 block per page. There are written instructions as well as charts making it accessible to all. I am used to following written patterns and set off to follow these but I have to say I had some difficulties. This may be something to do with the fact that I started with an advanced pattern which could have been slightly ambitious (there are three categories easy, intermediate and advanced). The consequence of this however is that I have managed to teach myself how to read charts from this book so I am really chuffed. The book gives quite comprehensive instructions. It gives a summary of which hooks to use with which yarns, how to read ball bands, how to start and finish neatly, suggestions for edgings and advice on how to arrange the blocks together. At the back there are 4 examples of projects which you can make. My favourite page shows one block worked with different hook sizes and yarns. It really shows what a difference this makes clearly.

Betty Barnden always turns out blocks and items to inspire me, I just love her ideas. This book is choc full of them - loads of beautiful coloured hexagons, squares, circles and triangles together with ideas for using them - love it. There are flower purses and a rose scarf and a daisy cushion and as well as few wonderful things to make there's also useful stuff such as showing the difference between blocks if you use various yarns, then there's testing your tension, doesn't matter so much for a throw or cushion but if you're going to use the blocks for a garment then this is useful to know. You'll also get well illustrated instructions on how to join blocks in various ways, really, the information included, the lovely diagrams and fabulously coloured pictures, and the sheer inspiration in here makes this money well spent.-Elaine B Reader, Amazon

There are a variety of blocks in this book, with some interesting compositions. This makes it easy to find many that you will want to combine into a blanket, throw or a myriad of other accessories. The book also includes charts - a useful addition to help conquer any troublesome patterns - and some very handy tips on sewing or crocheting your motifs together when finished.

We're sure you've seen traditional crocheted blanket squares before, but have you seen ones featuring 3D flowers and butterflies? They're all in this book! Some blocks are square, others hexagonal, circular or triangular. Choose your favourites and sew them together to create a throw, purse, cushion or scarf, instructions for which are given. Or use them to create your own projects with leftover yarn - with so many shapes, styles and sizes, the possibilities are endless.
