Each title in this series takes a professional person, whose job is familiar to the reader age group, and follows them through their day. Each introduces the context of members of society going about their daily work. Steve is a school caretaker and is in charge of all the day-to-day running of the building to make sure it is comfortable for the teachers and children to work in. His duties include organising the cleaning staff and the dinner ladies, but he also finds time to greet the children at the start of their day.
