Four years ago a team of women walked to the North Pole. For Caroline Hamilton, the team leader, there was just one problem - it wasn't enough. And so, in 1999, five of these women decided to visit the snowy wastes and arid landscapes of Antarctica. In just 60 days they skied from the very edge of the continent to the pole - a distance of 700 miles. In constant driving winds, never-ending daylight, affected by the unusual magnetic forces and dragging all their food and medical supplies with them, they needed to expend the energy equivalent of running two marathons each and every day.
