This work offers to enhance the experiences of today's pilgrims by helping them draw on the history of pilgrimage itself, as well as suggesting rewarding sites to visit. It covers the history of pilgrimage from Celtic times, through the early Christian period and the Middle Ages, to the revival of pilgrimage today. Then the author describes 15 sites, with a history and personal meditations on the experience of the Holy in each place. The book includes a section with contact details for tourist boards and relevant Ordnance Survey maps.
