Dr Nicola Drew has always had very strong insights into the health of her patients. She can tell at a glance if women are pregnant before they know themselves, and she seems to sense instinctively whether critically ill patients are going to live or die. But she detects no warning signs whatsoever when her artist fiance dumps her in a very dramatic, public and humiliating way, three weeks before they were due to go to Indonesia together to work for his father.
