The Loss of a Child Summary

The Loss of a Child: My Story by Jenny Ford

The worst thing that a parent can ever go through is the loss of a child. The pain, the emptiness, the guilt and the sadness that you feel, is like no other. Does it get any easier? Yes, it does. Will your heart ever mend? Yes, it will. But it does take time to heal. Jenny lost her little girl twenty-eight years ago - a long time. But had she healed? Not as much as she thought. That was until she decided to write this book and share her story with the world. I'm sharing this heartbreaking time of my life to let other parents know that it's okay to feel the way they do. I want to let people know that talking about their feelings, their sorrow, their worries, their pain - but also their joy, could help them to grieve and be more at peace with themselves and the world around them - just like I have! - Jenny Ford This book supports Child Bereavement UK by making a donation from every book sold. The Loss of a Child Reviews

Very thoughtfully written. Child loss is such a difficult and emotive topic to write about. I really admire how Jenny thanked her ex-husband for keeping her strong. It's a real act of kindness to show gratitude towards an ex-partner whilst reflecting on such a tragic time in your life. The Loss of a Child' is a short story so as much as it's hard to read at times; particularly if you relate to the circumstances, it is manageable to digest. Catriona was born in 1991 and died seven-and-a-half months later. This is the devastating story of a mother's loss and her experience with the medical professionals and then sadly the Police after her daughters sudden death. Jenny's honesty shines through her writing and she even shares how the loss of Catriona ultimately affected her marriage. It's not a light read and it's quite dark at times but Jenny's writes with such tenderness and attention to small details that you will want to keep reading. - Eileen Morrison
