Hastings to Culloden Summary

Hastings to Culloden: Battles of Britain by John Adair

This classic army survey by two of Britain's foremost military historians looks in detail at all the major campaigns and battles to have taken place on British soil since the Norman Conquest. From Hastings, Bosworth and Flodden to Naseby, Dunbar and Culloden all these campaigns and many more are placed in the context of their day, with the changes in arms and tactics described to show the changing art of war from the Conquest to 1746. Using contemporary documents and eye-witness accounts, the authors offer an insight into the motives of conflict and what it was like to be on the front line at these great battles. Illustrated throughout with battle-plans and sketch-maps, this book continues to be one of the foremost authorities on warfare in Britain and remains essential reading for all those interested in military history.
