Summary

This book forms part of a series of images of Scotland's most beautiful scenery taken by some of its finest photographers. These books are not simply pictures of what we can see from our car window, nor simply misty landscapes but photography which gets to the heart of both the landscape and its human component.

The West Highlands Summary

The West Highlands by John Macpherson

The area of Scotland from Lochaber to Durness is one of the most spectacular and isolated in Scotland. It is a landscape cut with great sea lochs and towering mountains. It is the heartland of the Scottish clans and it was here that the Jacobite cause lingered longest and with greatest force. As well as being a barrier these mountains and lochs were also an artery across Scotland. It was up the Great Glen that Columba travelled to convert the Picts, it was through the passes that Montrose swept to rout the Campbells at Inverlochy. It is a land rich in relics and magnificent scenery
