Fooled Ya! Reviews

An eye-opener for readers who think their brains have it all figured out (but look what's telling them that, as the old joke goes). - Kirkus Reviews
Can you trust your brain 100 percent 24/7? Not always, and Brown presents a fascinating, often hilarious romp of uncovering what the brain is, what it does and how it can fool us.
Prepare to be dazzled with cool optical illusions and fun experiments to try. Learn how magicians trick your brain, how to spot con artists, liars and other scammers. The list goes on and on. Brown explains how all of this happens in a super-kid-friendly way using language that will appeal to readers/listeners.
Funny, informative and very clever, Fooled Ya! will have kids thinking about their brains in a whole new way and become, in the process, better critical thinkers. - Kendal Rautzhan for readingeagle.com
This is a great book for patrons who represent a niche audience: kids who are into magic. Not Harry Potter and fantasy stuff, but real magic-card tricks, mind reading, and ventriloquism. An added benefit is that the brain science that goes into fooling audiences-the neurological, sensory, physical, and psychological influences that make illusions possible-is seamlessly folded in. Step-by-step instructions for card tricks and intriguing exercises with optical illusions are intermingled with examples of instances where brain manipulation and psychological trickery come in handy: advertising, undercover police work, notorious con artists, hoaxes, mediums, and even professional sports hype. Immensely entertaining, the graphic-rich pages feature considerable chunks of text and numerous sidebars. - Kathleen McBroom for Booklist Online Exclusive
