About Ken Porter

Stephen is a retired Police officer having served with Essex Police for thirty years between 1983 and 2013. Both his grandfathers served in and survived the First World War, one with the Royal Irish Rifles, the other in the Mercantile Navy. Ken and Stephen have corroborated on a previous book, 'German POW Camp 266 - Langdon Hills.' They also have other books in this local history series. Ken is also retired, his working life spent in accountancy as a finance director. These days he is a very well-respected local historian. His maternal grandfather, James Fredrick Pitt, served with the 6th Battalion of the City of London Rifles during the First World War. He survived after having been invalided out due to the injuries he received whilst fighting on the Western Front.
