The author first became interested in sex differences in speech when she coached Dustin Hoffman for his role in the film Tootsie. In this book she aims to help those who want to avoid unnecessary misundertandings, gain confidence and improve the way in which they are understood and perceived by the opposite sex. Poor communication between the sexes lies at the root of many problems, such as sexual stereotyping, well-qualified women finding career progress difficult, extra-marital affairs, and sexual harassment at work. The book identifies 105 sex differences in communication, covering body language, voice tone, speech patterns and choice of language. In each case, the author offers advice on improving relationships with the opposite sex in the bedroom, at work and in social situations.
