Part of a series, this book is aimed primarily at sixth formers studying A-level and those who require a reference source. A wide range of source material is used in this book, including examples of Stalin's speeches, letters and memoirs as well as examples of newspapers and official documents from the period. The book includes a section which has questions of varying difficulty, but which aim throughout to compel the pupil to think by the use of unfamiliar material. Pupils are encouraged to assess the reliability of evidence, to recognise bias and emotional prejudice, to reconcile conflicting accounts and to extract the essential from the irrelevant.
