Clinical Specialties, MLA edition Summary

Clinical Specialties, MLA edition: Medical student revision guide by Rebecca Richardson (Junior Doctor, Royal Derby Hospital, Derby)

Totally revised and updated edition fully mapped to the MLA (Medical Licensing Assessment) curriculum

"This book is what I would have wished for in my medical student days." From the Foreword by Stella Vig, National Clinical Director for Elective Care

All the core knowledge you need at medical school in one place!

Clinical Specialties: Medical Student Revision Guide contains the core information you need on: Community-based medicine; Geriatric medicine; Gynaecology; Obstetrics; Paediatrics; Psychiatry; Dermatology; Ear, nose and throat; Ophthalmology; Anaesthetics; Palliative care.

Throughout medical school, and the years thereafter, a huge volume of knowledge must be acquired and retained, to achieve the standards expected of a safe and successful doctor. This is a mammoth task.

Clinical Specialties: Medical Student Revision Guide is designed to make accessing and remembering core knowledge as easy as possible:

  • each topic is presented in a colourful, revision-ready note format, with extensive use of diagrams, tables and flowcharts
  • key points are highlighted and core concepts summarised, making the information easier to digest, assimilate and memorise
  • a consistent structure means you always have access to clinical presentation, investigations and management, risk factors and complications.

Every chapter has been peer-reviewed by a specialist in the field, to ensure it is accurate and reflects the most up-to-date guidelines.

In addition, these specialists have also used their own personal experience of studying for medical exams to ensure that the books focus on the most important conditions, concepts and vocabulary needed to pass finals.

Clinical Specialties: Medical Student Revision Guide is the perfect companion for your medicine degree, exam revision, medical finals and your early career as a foundation doctor.

Clinical Specialties, MLA edition Reviews

So far I love the layout and how it is presented.
I really like how the less important and more important information is highlighted with different colours. For someone like me who gets bogged down with detail, knowing what to learn first (important info) and what should be learned later (less important info) would be really useful in textbooks. Using the red for red flags and emergency points is eye-catching and makes it stand out. I have never seen the different colour boxes for differential diagnosis, risk factors/triggers and complications or prognosis and I really like this idea. It makes the information more visually appealing and means these concepts are differentiated from each other which is great for making flashcards etc.
The overall layout is very clear, well spaced and out is a great revision guide. I am really enjoying using the section I have so thank you for sending it to me.
Having the room at the side for your own notes is also really useful as sometimes there are additional points we may be taught in university, found on placements or additional local guidelines which you may want to add and having this space is great. I haven't seen this feature before either and I think this is a great concept for students as often there are university specific "buzz words" for exams or placements. -- Pre-publication review, 4th year medical student, Plymouth University

Amazing book. Everything you need to know.
This book is something that every single medical student NEEDS to have. Its so well organised and covers everything you need to know. The pages are colourful and have clever colour keys, this really helps me remember it because I have a visual memory. The pages themselves are good because they are thick paper but arent laminated, so you can actually highlight or annotate on it yourself too. My other revisions guides have been put at the back of my bookshelf because of this guide!!
Ill be telling all my friends to get it, cannot recommend it more!!' Amazon reviewer
