First published in 1971, this book provides an account of the Crimean War, covering the peripheral theatres as well as the Crimea itself, and providing the fundamental facts without pleading any special cause. The illustrations were selected with the intention of making the reader familiar with the topography of the siege and the battles of Balaclava, Inkerman and the Chernaya. Since the book's original publication, the battlefields have been made accessible to tourists, and the illustrations should prove an asset to anyone visiting the Crimea.
