The British in Love was first presented in the form of a theatre production conceived with two aims: as a tribute to Juliet Stevenson's late father and to raise money for the hospice that had cared for him during his illness. Juliet Stevenson and fellow actor Philip Franks have selected over 50 pieces of their favourite poetry and prose, on the subject of love in its many guises, to make up this collection, now being presented in book form to raise money for charity. The extracts range from classic pieces, drawn from Shakespeare, Donne and the Brontes, to the modern writings of Alan Bennett, Victoria Wood and Roger McGough. Some of the pieces are comic and some tragic.
