Rationality in Economics by Shaun Hargreaves Heap
Rationality is a central concept in economic thought and one of the most basic assumptions for its explanatory and prescriptive power. Shaun Hargreaves-Heap's book contends that the model of rationality assumed by economics is seriously flawed and that the social world of economic agents cannot considered independent of our beliefs, hypothesis and conjectures about that world. In its place the author argues that the idea of rationality must acknowledge uncertainty and the existential concerns of individuals. Throughout the argument the author draws widely on the literature of economics, making the book a survey of the major philosophical disputes in the subject. Rationality in Econimics will be welcomed throughout the social sciences for the breadth of its analysis.
