Painted Ladies Summary

Painted Ladies by Siobhan Parkinson

Painted Ladies is the second adult novel by Siobhan Parkinson, Ireland's first children's laureate and winner of multiple awards for her children's books.

Spanning Copenhagen and Paris in the late 19th century, this beautifully written story centres around Marie Kroyer, who met the famous artist and leading light of the Skagen art movement, Peter Soren Kroyer, when she was a young art student, and married him. This book also tells the story of Anna Ancher, a native of Skagen who married one of the artists at an early age and went on to become herself perhaps the finest artist of them all.

Painted Ladies Reviews

This book may be read as a thrilling adventure, but it reflects on broader issues such as the impossibility of the perfection of the life and of the art...Parkinson's highly polished mirror captures her characters but also her own skills as a novelist.
