The Tao Te Ching is one of the most translated books of all time. Yet in the light of very recent manuscript discoveries made in China and the findings of modern scholarship, it has become apparent that the traditional view of this seminal Chinese philosophical classic is wrong in many respects. This new version aims to introduce the general reader to a deeper understanding of the ancient and comntemporary significance of this text. The work divides into sections, revealing how recent discoveries undermine the traditional view of Tao Te Ching the text; the work is placed in its ancient context and its true meaning as well as its relevance for the modern reader is explored. The chapters are arranged thematically, and a running commentary elucidates the ancient and modern significance of the text.
