''A sweet story, wonderfully illustrated, and with a very important message.' The Wishing Shelf ; REVIEW ; I very much enjoyed this short story for children; but, most importantly, so did my young daughter. The writing style, often simple but always very, very visual, works perfectly for a picture book of this nature. Pacing is also excellent, the paragraphs never overly long, perfect for a restless child at bedtime. ;There was so much to enjoy here, whether it be the wonderfully playful language - I particularly loved 'Her new green and blue colours became a landscape filled with trees and rolling hills - or Daisy, the bus, who helps the young reader to understand how not everything old should be thrown away. ; I must devote a little ink to discussing the drawings. For my daughter, they were the best part of the book. Yes, she enjoyed the plot, the small number of characters and settings, but it was the colourful, even delightful drawings that had her enthralled. There are plenty too, and they, along with the lightly-written story, kept her enthralled at bedtime. ;I would think any parent who is looking for a lightly-written, sweet story for children aged 5 - 8 would find this book fits the bill perfectly. Also, there's a lovely theme of 'recycling' to the story that parents will be happy to share with young children. And, of course, any child who enjoys this book will instantly want to find a play bus to play on. She was the number 73 bus and rode the Oxford Street route. Everything changed the day a bright red bus drove into the garage. The big red bus was shiny and new and had a door in the front, unlike Daisy. As more new buses came, Daisy understood that it would only be a matter of time before these buses replaced the old ones like her. One by one, the old buses disappeared and Daisy was worried, wondering what would happen to her. Her driver, Philip, and conductor, Val, had other plans. They decided to transform her into a play bus after having read a story about an old bus in the newspaper. Daisy's name was changed to Daisy Daydream and she began her dream run. ;It is an adorable story based on a real play bus. Apart from introducing children to nursery rhyme characters, the story also conveys an important message - that of recycling the old and reusing it instead of throwing it away. The pictures are bright and colorful and they make the scenes vivid and bring the entire story alive. The storybook is perfect for fun and interactive sessions in classrooms because it is educational. Parents will find it easy to teach their kids about nursery rhyme characters and nursery rhymes with the help of this story. It is a good book for all children who love traveling and exploring the city in a bus.
