Billy Ryder, master builder, and Finbar O'Toole, wandering master gilder, are trapped on the outskirts of a city at war, somewhere in the Middle East. As the sirens and missiles whistle around them, they build a wall in order to protect an ancient shrine. For Billy it is simply a job to earn his passage home, but for Finbar, who has seen inside the shrine, the story which unfolds before him that has all the ancient qualities of the Arabian nights, and O'Toole is the all seeing storyteller.
